    What is Berta?

    Berta is a free online content management system (CMS). It is best suited for young artists, designers and all those, who want to build their online portfolio. Our goal is a easily manageable online portfolio, where you can upload your new stuff with just a few clicks, so you spend more time on creating new things.

    I like it. What now?

    First you need your web address (like www.youtube.com) and second you need a place for Berta or a server where to install it. It is like renting an apartment — you can stay with your friends or get your own. The third step is setting it up. If you are familiar with tools like FTP — do it yourself, if not ask your friends or us. More info in section HOW TO USE section.

    Why do we call it the virtual wall?

    We think, that all the attention should go to your work. Berta is just there to show it — like a wall in a gallery. Of course you can repaint it, change things so it fits better, but it is still just a background.

    What is a Template?

    Templates are new in Berta since version 0.5b. A template is like a dress, or a theme, or a type of finish your wall has. You can change templates to change the general look and feel of your portfolio. And if you're not satisfied with the bundled templates you are most welcome to create your own!

    What is server?

    Server is a place where websites live. There are different kinds of servers — mail server is the one who is responsible for emails, file servers brings all files in one place (for example in offices) and there are web servers, where website data is stored. Web servers are connected to fast internet lines and makes the site available for the rest of the world. Mostly you have to pay if you would like to store your site somewhere. 

    How do I upgrade Berta?

    The most important thing is to remember your FTP password. The next step is to replace old files with the new ones. Just remember as long as you don't erase the STORAGE folder, your site content is safe! Unfortunately not all versions are compatible — since we introduced templates, you cannot directly upgrade to version 0.5b. But be patient — currently we are building a workaround for it.

    Should all Tags, URLS and other fields be filled with something?

    No. All fields are optional — use only the ones you need and leave the rest blank.
